Today, as I had nothing to do, so I opened my computer and found a movie to watch. I thought about the movie that my friend asked me to watch, it was called 13 Is Going on 30. The story told about a 13 years old girl wanted to be a woman, so that she could have the beautiful face and perfect body shape. She wanted to date any handsome guy she liked. Then the magical thing happened, she became 30 and she got everything. But she felt lost, because her life was totally messed. I had the same feeling with the girl when I was at her age, I wanted to grow up quickly. But now, when I look at that age, I think it is better to cherish what I had at that time. Every stage of life has its happiness, so there is no need to skip the stage.

As a child, I am very looking forward to growing up, so that I can be independent and move out, doing whatever I want. I get tired of my mother’s babble. When I am playing computer games, she will ask me to help her with the house work or she will ask me to go to sleep more than 11 o’clock. If I refuse, her anger makes me feel scared. How nice it will be if I just sleep all the day and doing nothing at all. But after watching a movie, I realized my bad idea. In the movie, the boy got angry with her mother and went out of the house. He hanged around the street. When it was dark, he missed his mother’s food, the comfortable house, even her mother’s babble. The taste of a mother will be remembered by her child forever. It stands for happiness.

Jane Eyre A Beautiful Soul

Jane Eyre, is a poor but aspiring, small in body but huge in soul, obscure but self-respecting girl. After we close the covers of the book, after having a long journey of the spirit, Jane Eyre, a marvelous figure, has left us so much to recall and to think:

We remember her goodness: for someone who lost arms and blinded in eyes, for someone who despised her for her ordinariness, and even for someone who had hurt her deeply in the past.

We remember her pursuit of justice. It's like a companion with the goodness. But still, a virtuous person should promote the goodness on one side and must check the badness on the other side.

We remember her self-respect and the clear situation on equality. In her opinion, everyone is the same at the God's feet. Though there are differences in status、in property and also in appearance, but all the human being are equal in personality.

We also remember her striving for life, her toughness and her confidence

When we think of this girl, what she gave us was not a pretty face or a transcendent temperament that make us admire deeply, but a huge charm of her personality.

Actually, she wasn't pretty, and of course, the ordinary appearance didn't make others feel good of her, even her own aunt felt disgusted with it. And some others even thought that she was easy to look down on and to tease, so when Miss Ingram met Jane Eyre, she seemed quite contemptuous, for that she was obviously much more prettier than 'the plain and ugly governess。 But as the little governess had said: 'Do you think, because I am poor, obscure, plain, and little, I am soulless and heartless? You think wrong!' This is the idea of equality in Jane Eyre's mind. God hadn't given her beauty and wealth, but instead, God gave her a kind mind and a thinking brain. Her idea of equality and self-respect impress us so much and let us feel the power inside her body.

In my mind, though a person's beauty on the face can make others once feel that one is attractive and charming, if his or her mind isn't the same beautiful as the appearance, such as beauty cannot last for, when others find that the beauty which had charmed them was only a falsity, it's not true, they will like the person no more. For a long time, only a person's GREat virtue, a noble soul, a beautiful heart can be called as AN EVERLASTING BEAUTY, just as Kahill Gibran has said, that 'Beauty is a heart enflamed and a soul enchanted。 I can feel that how beauty really is, as we are all fleshly men, so we can't distinguish whether a man is of nobleness or humbleness, but fleshly men, so we can't distinguish whether a man is of nobleness or humbleness, but as there are great differences in our souls, and from that, we can know that whether a man is noble or ordinary, and even obscure, that is, whether he is beautiful or not.

The Call of the Wild is London’s most-read book, and generally considered his best, the most masterpiece of his so-called “early period”。 The story was set in 19th-century Klondike Gold Rush, in which sled dogs were bought at generous prices.

Buck was a domestic dog in Judge Miller’s home and living a comfortable life until he was sold secretly by the poor gardener and became a sled dog. Buck was a Bernard dog weighed one hundred and forty pounds, tall, strong, and heavy muscled. He couldn’t accommodate to the harsh condition at first. And he wanted to fight, to escape, to go back to his cozy home, but in vain.

The man in red taught him the law of stick and club—one must first adjust himself to his surroundings and learn the rules, and only after that he can do what he wants to do. The club of the man in red called back Buck’s nature as a dog.

When he firstly served for Fran?ois and Perrault, two couriers, he showed his superior ability to adapt to the environment and his smartness to learn everything he wanted to learn. Curly’s death astonished him and taught him to be cautious. And before he had recovered from the shock caused by the tragic passing of Curly, he was harnessed as a sled dog and step by step wanted to be the leader. But the leading dog, Spitz, was already an excellent one, who also considered Buck as enemy and potential competitor. At last, when Spitz once punished him, hurling backward Buck, he knew the time had come. He killed Spitz and took his place.

When they pulled into Dawson, Buck was sold as useless thing to three gold diggers, who weren’t veteran in sledding and even didn’t know how to get to their destination. Food was eaten up half way. So Charles, one of the three, decided to kill Buck when he couldn’t get up. However, when he aimed at Buck, John Thornton sprang upon him, knocked him down and told him that if Charles stroke Buck, Thornton would kill him.

Thus, Thornton took Buck away. He was the only true friend of Buck. But Buck was a thing of the wild, especially when the calling of wolf from the hills. Once when he came back from hills, he found that Thornton was killed by Indians. What would you do if you were Buck when your beloved friend was killed? Buck became a nut and killed those headsmen and stayed with Thornton for two days and nights, never leaving Thornton out of his sight. And then a nearby wolf howl captures his ears, and he follows the sound to an approaching wolf pack, battling several of these creatures to prove his worth.

“When the long winter nights come on and the wolves follow their meat into the lower valleys, he may be seen running at the head of the back through the pale moonlight or glimmering borealis, leaping gigantic above his followers, his great throat a bellow as he sings a song of the younger world, which is the song of the pack.”

There was a script about the savage life in the frozen north of ice and snow. There were the unexplored north areas of America and the 19th-century Klondike Gold Rush which dragged men from the entire world into the hard wild to look for gold. There was a road where a gigantic dog like human fought his way to struggle in the wasteland. There was a civilized beast grew from mildness to wildness. And there came the call of the wild.

The background and plot

In the 19th century, it was said that gold had been found in the Klondike area in Northern California of vast wilderness, so thousands of people rushed into this uncultivated ground to seek for gold and fortune, which needed a large quantity of dogs to support for the transportation. There came up Buck story which we can’t define it as luckiness or unluckiness.

Buck, a dog weighed one hundred and forty pounds, tall, strong, and heavy muscled, lived a cozy and comfortable life in a rich family of a Judge named Miller, but was soled by evil gardener to two dog dealers and was took to Alaska as a sled dog.

Led by his second masters, two governmental couriers, he studied how to pull a sled and how to live in this cruel world where needed more cunning behavior and less fake moral and courtesy. For example, he learned to sleep in the snow hole to get warmness from the clod nights, and he learned to thief bacon and food from his masters and neighboring camps, as well as that, he learned how to fight effectively and efficiently with his antagonists and survive of the combat about the dominant leader with Spitz. In addition to those, he also went through the hardships in the toil on the ice layer, and he learned how to obtain the victory and stand on the wilderness which was beneficial to himself who can only fit the environment, but can’t defy the harness.

After the arduous trace and trail, they finally reached the destination, and then, after a short break, dogs including Buck led by a Scotch half-breed man stepped again on the ice land with the Salt Water Mail. It was a hard trip and a monotonous life operating like machine that dogs must undertake the heave pulling and poor condition where they were tired and short of weight. Buck’ partner, Dave who had something wrong inside suffered most of all, but pride as he was, pulling the sled was his holy missionary job which can fulfill his life and must be done until his death. However, the tough work was still continuous.

Thirty days passes, by which time Buck and his mates found how really tired and weak they are until they arrived at the last town. They were in a wretched state, worn out and worn out, which was not the tiredness that came from a brief and excessive effort and can be recovered from some hours’ rest, but was the dead tiredness that came through the slow and prolonged strength drainage of months of toil and had to need a long vocation to evacuate. Nevertheless, only three days after they were bought by a family including a foolish woman, a callow and ignorant youngster, and a middle aged man with weak and watery eyes. Never mind of dog’s frazzle, the third masters tried their best to lash out at them with whip, but Buck was not under very good command and not proud and interested of this career. Until they reached at the camp of Thornton, with the natural instinct and extreme weariness, Buck tolerated the whip from his so called masters and refused to go ahead which was his luckiness to meet his last master, Thornton.

Without doubt, Thornton was a good master, full of wisdom, intelligence and love who can manage Buck’s life comfortably and in order. By the careful attendance form his new master, Buck was on his feet quickly and solidly. Filled with the loying love toward his master, Buck companied him, saved his life for several times and helped him win the gambling party. Then, they faced into the East on an unknown trail to achieve where men and dogs as good as themselves has failed, as the call from the wild became stronger and stronger which attracted Buck to leave the civilization to look for. The knife that cut out the bound of Buck between his masters was the master’s deaths which left a void in the dog’s heart and a strengthened calling from the wild. Buck, a civilized dog, finally went back to wolves after thousands of generation by singing a song of the younger world, which is the song of the pack.

Survive of the fittest

The Call of the Wild abounded in Darwinism which advocated the evolutionism and natural selection theory.

In the process of having to leave the comfortable Miller’s house and adapt to the harsh primitive snowfield, Buck went through the changes from the mildness to wildness where he studied the law of club and fang and admitted the rule of failure without progress. “He had learned well the law of club and fang, and he never forewent an advantage or drew back from a foe he had started on the way to death.” “He must master or be mastered,” “Kill or be killed, eat or be eaten, was the law; and this mandate, down out of the depths of time, he obeyed.”

After analysis, we can find that related to the Darwinism, learning ability was an important factor of the victory of living of Buck. As a south dog living in the rich family and innocent environment, Buck was not wary of Manuel’s uncommon behavior, but situation has changed entirely after a period of barbaric life: he showed hostility to his all possible mates and took precaution of everything. As well as that, throwing away the moral standard and facing the death of starvation, Buck had an ability of thief. “This first theft marked Buck as fit to survive in the hostile Northland environment. It marked his adaptability, his capacity to adjust himself to changing conditions, the lack of which would have meat swift and terrible death.” In addition to those, his muscles became hard as iron, and he grew dumb to all ordinary pain, and he can successful take full use of all the elements no matter internal or external. That’s the progression of Buck which can equip him with thick helmets from being hurt deeply and made him be the fittest.

Not only did he learnt by experience, but instincts long dead became alive again. Maybe knowledge acquired by learning was Buck’s left hand, instincts his right. Good pedigree set up his first sense of a tall, strong and muscular potential king, while the instinct helped him to learn fast and save his life. “It was no task for him to learn to fight with cut and slash and the quick wolf snap.” “They came to him without effort or discovery, as though they had been his always.”

Buck changed as his living environment changed. With the change of environment, Buck, compared to the previous southern family dog that was mild and gentle, acquired many abilities and skills. He tried his best to live by becoming cunning, cold-blood, and cruel which make him step forward on the road of corpse and blood. Survive of the fittest which is demonstrated by adaptation to the environment and wielding the law to protect himself and attack on others made him roared on the top of the food chain and return to wolves.

All what Buck has done was not due to his reason and thought, but due to his fit. He was fit to everything surrounding him unconsciously and put him to the new way of living quickly.

“The theory, ‘Survival of the fittest’, is the law of biological evolution which implies that plants or animals adapt to the environment to survive or to die—it is the biological survival rule of brutal biosphere.” That is to say, the key of this law is that those who can fit the environment can survive, on the contrary, those failed to fit would be obsolete under the rule of elimination.

Peeping at Buck and his struggle, we can have a vision of us human that was also fighting in the battlefield with our mates and against our enemy. Filled with bustling stuff, we tried our best to stand on the top of right and authority only because that position would give us more materials and the sense of pride which we depended on to live. Flowers in the greenhouse didn’t know about the hardship of living, so they showed goodwill and send aroma to others; while life in the ice field where wind was blowing like knife and thick snow can bury people only showed a will of survive and cut up the useless goodness to wear on the coldness.

We must do it because we had to do it. The pack of animal was like a society of people. Death and genocide would happen on us if we were not willing to fit the environment thoroughly. To dance with the shackle of survive of the fittest was the policy we should carry out forever, the reason why our human stood on the top of biologic chain, and the rule of living of every individual.

My opinion on virtue and vice

Some people had said virtue was the biggest treasure that human should obey. There is no doubt that kindness, loyalty, honor, love, companionship, sympathy, mercy, and other virtue should be followed. However, I argue that there is transformation between different virtue and even the virtue and vice.

Showing the feature of three animals: dog, wolf and human, Buck was the bridge that connected the past and present. As the production of human civilization, dog was evolved from wolf and they would still howl on the wilderness if human didn’t raise and train them.

Buck was a mirror from which we can see ourselves. Through this dog, writer told us that only in a place where sun darted its forth beams and everything was in order human will wear the coat of basic goodness, otherwise, kindness would be eliminated if it met with the club and fang. In the cruel process of primitive accumulation of capitalism, mercy and sympathy was not needed for those quality can lead to death of innocent people. In the period of survive of the fittest, life was not concerned with civilization, while wilderness was the real marrow of life and echoing for the wilderness was the beginning of revival. Buck realized that “Mercy did not exist in the primordial life. It was misunderstood for fear, and such misunderstanding made for death.” This phenomenon can be seen in dogs as well as human. Wilderness were calling for human and eliminating the kindness in human’s heart stealthily.

In A Treatise of Human Nature, British philosopher David Hume has said moral came from human’s emotion and conscience but not rationality. The essence of moral existed in the perceptual knowledge, but not rational knowledge. Therefore, the reason why moral distinctions had the division of virtue and vice was that the judgment of moral came from human’s attitude toward their internal actions and external objects. The judgment of moral came from our interest appeal; that is to say, the judgment of moral came from what was good to us, but not what is good.

Let us think the question that which direction of Buck’s change to a beast was, progression or retrogression? The answer was that we can’t answer because he survived due to that he threw away those so called virtue and carry out those so called villainy. All what Buck did was under the pressure of living, and he responded to the call of the wild only because he wanted to live. Maybe in the comfortable and civilized Judge’s house, he would stick to the standard of moral and protect the respect of Judge’s riding whip by dying under his whip. But in this cold field, sticking to those so called moral was a fool. Possibly in this kind of world, brutality, cold-bloodedness, cunning and so on was the moral.

The division of virtue and vice was the refection of the division of civilization and wilderness to some degree. Maybe we can’t define what moral was and what vice was now in some scene, but we can try to last for enough time to seek for the answer.

Run after the free life

The call from the wild stood for human’s nature to run after a simple, independent and free life.

Buck was bored of the complex life where he must deal with such a big net of relationship. He just wanted to run and leap through the forest, howled under the grey moonlight, ate what he liked and killed what he liked without many rules to obey. No one desired to live a complicated life for it’s difficult and tiring to reckon other people, while life in the wilderness was just that eat or eaten, kill or killed and there was no middle ground. Easy and simple life was set up on the uncivilized world where creatures didn’t have so much relation and elements to consider. Only being independent from all that can we find what we wanted.

When unpracticed Charles and his relatives sunk in a ice hole, writer said that “A yawning hole was all that was to be seen.” That hole was a capitalistic vast mouth that can eat people, but which would be rotten if we escaped from it. “Here a yellow stream flows from rotted moose—hide sacks and sinks into the ground, with long grasses growing through it and vegetable mould overrunning it and hiding its yellow from the sun.” The gold that Thornton got has become a yellow stream because they were eroded by natural power and lost their value. Imagine in a world where was entirely natural and uncivilized, gold, a kind of iron and currency, was entirely futile, isn’t it?

Being free of human world and even free of materials, Buck got a totally new life where he can run at the head of the pack through the pale moonlight to release his vitality and got comfort from nature. We needed materials actually, but material was void actually. How can we get free? To get free of our hearts.

Conclusion

There are two sentences I’d like to mention. First, human beings, never degenerate into beasts. Second, beasts, never degenerate into human beings. Correctness of those two sentences should be discussed.

Human’s progression began in the point when human beings evolved from wilderness period to civilization, but the retrogression also began at the point when people shared the feast of civilization. For us who are far away from the wilderness and raised and trained by civilization, this book gives us a new vision.

Sometimes a picture floating in my mind: in the icy forest, a silhouette of Buck as a wolf caned his neck to howl toward the pale moonlight to echo the howling of pack. That’s the song of animal, and the chant of human, and the snarl of life.

One day ,a gardener who worked for Judge took Buck out of the house when there were no people in home and sold Buck to a dog smuggler in secret .From then on ,Buck set foot on his miserable life .He was transferred from one to anther and under a bad condition all day ,he suffered from hunger ,cold ,various harm and pain .Sometimes ,Buck was beaten black and blue by human being .At the same time ,Buck must fight with other dog in order to stay alive ,finally ,Buck became very strong and made himself the leader of the whole dog team .life was always going on like this for o while .Once during a journey ,Buck was nearly dead ,then he met his master Jhon Thorton .Thorton was a perfect person who came to Buck s rescue and Buck deeply loved him forever .But one day ,Thorton was killed by Indians ,Buck lost his lover and he became nothing then .Finally ,Buck responded the call of the wild and became a wolf ,lived an early wild life as his ancestors .

From loyal dog to cruel wolf ,there were several important things in Buck life .

The law of club given by the man of red sweater

Buck just entered the Northen society ,he knew nothing about the world ,he behaved on his nature completely ,the man of red sweater gave him a club and let him know obeydience ,Buck learned this lesson for his whole life .

Buck was very angry after his terrible experience ,he resisted stubbornly and treated the man in red sweater as enemy .(in fact ,the man was ) and was going to fight with him .But the short man of red sweater was more stronger .At the man s club ,Buck was almost beaten to death .It was the first time that Buck had been hit by a man ,he was greatly frightened .However ,Buck was beaten ,not broken ,he had learned an important lesson and would never forget it .In his later life ,when such situation appeared ,Buck reacted immediately and got rid of quickly .Here we can say that Buck was clever but and wise ,he learned quickly from what he had experience and others .That is to say ,Buck has some learning spirit ,he could adapt everything rapidly and get less punishment .

The Curly accident

Buck was shocked at a second time that was his mate Curly death ,he witnessed that .Curly was a good natured dog ,she just wanted to make friends with others ,but she paid her life for that .The dog attacked Curly and other dogs immediately took part in the activity when Curly was down on the ground .Spitz also did that .

It was a second first time that Buck had seen dogs fight like wolves .At a short moment ,a life no longer existed .Buck learned another lesson ,that was life in the North was primitive ,cruel, and no fair play ,once you were down on the ground ,it was the end of you .Here ,only the strong could survive ,one must be very careful ,the others around you might be your enemy and your opponent .I think in Buck life ,this point always plays an important role .For example ,he always kept calm minds about Spitz .

On the other hand ,from the Curly accident ,Buck got a clear thought about Spitz ,in Buck s later life ,Spitz was important .First ,Spitz was the leader of the whole team ,Buck had to follow him and avoid unnecessary conflict when he himself was not strong ,at the beginning ,it was impossible for Buck to defeat Spitz .So ,here Buck did a very good job .Second ,Spitz was a good rival for the strong ,the same for Buck .Spitz reserved Buck .As Chinese saying goes ,a strong opponent make you strong too .So Buck s achievement was closely related to Spitz .

Things gradually changed .Buck was not a good natured one any more ,he came to realized that he was strong enough and can do the same thing with Spitz ,he always did trouble for Spitz ,the other dogs also started challenged the authority of Spitz .But for Buck ,it was far more not enough ,for he wanted was the leadership of the team .

The life or death fight

The final fight between Buck and Spitz came ,it was not a coincidence but a necessity .Both of them knew clearly in their inner heart ,so none of them tried to get away or avoid .They already had prepared it for a long time .At that moment ,who got the rabbit was no longer important at all .No one cared .The other dogs also knew it clearly ,at the last moment ,they all were silence and waited for something they had expected eagerly .Buck and Spitz completely understood what was going on . Whoever went down on the ground, their lives would come to an end immediately .

At first, obviously Buck had no advantage at all ,he already wounded badly .But we know ,Buck was always different ,he promptly changed and Spitz did not notice that .Finally ,the battle came to an end with Spitz went down .The following other dogs would do ,Buck himself just stood far away saw what happened ,as he had witnessed what happened to Curly .It was Spitz who deserved such an end for only he took part in the death of Curly.

Then Buck was a victor .First ,he revenged for Curly ,because he deeply hated Spitz since he saw Spitz s behavior in the Curly accident .Second ,he defeated Spitz and he would become the leader that he desired for a long time .Finally ,the most important one ,he was a successful winner of the primitive life and he killed a living mate by himself ,and Buck felt that kind of feeling seemed to be good ,the hot blood made Buck so excited ,the strange feeling came from Buck s nature that Buck got it from his ancestors ,but Buck did not understand what it meant on earth .In fact ,Buck walked a big step towards the wild ,in his inner heart , he was very curious about the wild and he was also interested in that .

After the battle with Spitz ,Buck tried his efforts to get the leadership of the whole team ,he showed his ability to his masters and earned their praise .For a while ,Bucks journey life was good ,he and his team mates made a world record for rapid speed .However ,the good things finally would came to an end .Buck met three terrible masters who had no travel experience at all ,they also knew nothing about the cruel Northern world .So Thorton came to Buck .

For the love of a man

During the long hard journey ,only 5 of dogs were left .All of them were dead tired ,Buck was no exception of it ,he suffered a lot and almost became a dead dog .When they came to Jhon Thortons camp ,like his other teammates ,Buck fell down on the ground and did not try to get his feet once more .In fact ,in Bucks inner heart he already knew something terrible would be happen ,because the route for Buck was not strange ,he came there for several times .According to his former experience and sensitive sense ,Buck decided not get to his feet though he would be beaten to death .

The master wanted Buck to get up ,he refused .Of course ,Buck knew the result of his behavior .The club came to Buck again and again ,Buck already lost conscious .At that time ,Jhon Thorton came to Bucks rescue ,it was a great opportunity for Buck and his fortune came .Here Buck got rid of his hard days ,his good quality in the South came to him again ,he got the true love of human being .

Jhon Thorton did not like the person Buck had met before ,he was wise and had rich experience on life as well as on hard journey in the North .Of course ,Thorton also knew dogs and knew them very well .For Buck ,Jhon Thorton absolutely was a good master .In Bucks inner heart ,Thorton was the most important person to him ,he gave his true love to Thorton and he would try his biggest effort to protect Thorton from harm even if it cost his life .

Thorton to Bucks love ,Buck had never got it from other masters ,even though Judge Miller .Between Buck and Thorton ,there was a highly and specially agreement ,they could communicate with each other by a simple eye contact , Buck could get message from looking Thortons eyes .As Thorton himself once said ,sometimes he afraid of this love .So their relationship defeated anything and became the most important thing .There were several examples of this .First ,bad temperedBlack Burton hit Thornton for something ,Buck saw that and jumped to Burton throat at once .Second ,in the fall of a year ,three partners were travelling on a narrow boat through fast and rocky waters ,Thorton fell into the stream water ,the situation at that time was extremely dangerous ,Buck had jumped into action in an instant .When Thorn got saved at last ,Buck was nearly dead because of freezing cold .On seeing Buck was badly wounded in order to save himself ,Thorton moved to tears .Besides ,Buck helped Thorton again in another different manner .

All those things showed that Buck loved Thorton very much .If anything want to hurt Thorton ,no way .But things went to a wrong a way ,when Buck came back from outside ,he found that Thorton and other living things in their camp were killed by the Yeehat Indians .Then ,Buck got mad ,a wave of great anger came over him ,he growled out loud with a terrible terrible sound but he himself did not know that he growled .For the first time in his life he allowed his feeling to win over his cleverness and reason ,and it was because of his great love for Thorton that he lost his head .Buck truly was a evil ,he killed the Yeehat Indians and revenged for his master .Then,Buck returned to the empty ,ruined camp .He found Thorton in the muddy pool ,there was a great emptiness in him that he never had before .

Thorton was dead already .So ,there was nothing for Buck to leave and miss ,he was lonely again .At the same time ,Buck felt the call of the wild that striked him again and again .So joining in his old brothers was a good choice for Buck .

The fight with the leading moose

Buck lived alone and without help ,using his strength and power surviving in a hard and unfriendly environment where only the strong survived .Because of this ,Buck was proud of himself .So ,his longing for blood became stronger than ever ,he was a killer ,a thing that hunted other animals ,living on the things that lived .But Buck was not satisfied ,the animal he killed before were small and weak ,he wanted to challenged himself ,he needed a large strong one ,so the leading moose became his prey .During the battle with the leading moose ,Buck took full use of his power and cleverness .For ,Buck ,the battle was only an experiment ,but he wanted to know how strong he earth was and what kind of enemy he could not defeat ,the battle gave him an opportunity to fight with a real wild creature .The battle also laid the foundation for Bucks later life .

From the fight with the leading moose ,we could see that Buck was completely a successful winner of the primitive life .When fighting ,Buck did not attack straightly ,instead ,he used all kinds of methods to make the leading moose exhausted and feared .So ,what the leading moose wanted to do just was escaping ,for Buck ,he could defeat the leading moose .Meanwhile ,during the fight ,he himself would not hurt badly .

As Buck had expected ,he pulled the great moose down ,we can imagine that Buck was very satisfied with himself .In fact ,it was true .When Buck killed the moose ,he did not return at once .On the contrary ,he stayed by the kill for several days ,eating ,sleeping ,enjoyed his feast .Honestly ,it is the same with our humanbeing s .When we did something successful ,we also would lost our head ,wouldnt it ?

From those things Buck had ever through ,we can say Buck had all the good qualities of dogs or even more .For example ,Buck could adapt quickly ,we all know life from the South to the North was very different ,but Buck got it and was a successful survivor .As a man ,three were still other results ,the right example was Hal ,Charles and Mercedes ,they not only had no experience in travelling at all but they never learned from others and their lesson .So finally ,they all had taken away by the God .

Beside ,from a loyal dog to a wolf ,humanbeing plays an important role ,from that ,we can say human may be the most selfish creature .So in the story ,Buck to Thortons love was very valuable .

Sophie's World is a novel by Jostein Gaarder, published in 1991. It was originally written in Norwegian, but has been translated into English and many other languages.

I have to admit that I chose this book because of my curiosity. I have heard that Sophie's World is a book with many difficulties because its a philosophy book. This book relates to some philosophy knowledge that we have not learnt form our textbooks. I have planned to spend plenty of time to study this book, but because of the limit of time, I can only take several days to finish it during the National Day holiday. So there are still some theories that I cant understand.

In this book, Sophie Amundsen is a fifteen year old girl living in Norway in 1990. She lives with her cat, her goldfish, a tortoise, two budgerigars and her mother. Her father is a captain of an oil tanker, and is away for most of the year. He does not appear in the book. Sophie's life is rattled as the book

begins, when she receives two anonymous messages in her mailbox (Who are you? Where does the world come from? )。 Shortly afterwards she receives a packet of papers, part of a course in philosophy. With these mysterious

communications, Sophie becomes a fifteen-year-old philosopher. Alberto Knox teaches her about the history of philosophy. Sophie learns about philosophy while being lectured by Alberto, dressed as a monk, in an ancient church, and she learns about Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir. Various

philosophical questions and methods of reasoning are put before Sophie, as she attempts to work them out on her own.

I thought philosophy is an unreasonable study. However, after reading this book, I find that philosophy is a study which is closest to our lives.

Philosophy is a subject relates to some questions that everybody in the world want to know. The aim of philosophy is to solve some problems that can not be proved by science, like good and evil, beauty and ugliness, life and death. I think philosophy is not a kind of science because it can not be measured and calculated. Philosophy is a hypothetical interpretation about something that we never know and something we are not sure. Its also the first step to pursue truth. In our world, we can not avoid disaster and despairing only with science. Science brings us knowledge, but only can philosophy bring us wisdom. This is a good guide book to philosophy which is different from many other philosophy books. When I was reading it, it feels like a detective book. It let me think following Sophie unconsciously and discuss the philosophy problems also call on some famous philosophers and understand them, walk into their world. This book has many contents but it is not confused. Writer divided the book into some chapters and every chapter has its theme. And

every chapter can present several questions. This made readers can understand easily.

From hundreds of years ago, people from every ages and every nations are asking the same questions, as who am I? Where does the world come from? Just because of peoples curiosity, there is philosophy. But, regretfully, peoples curiosity started to decrease progressively because of their habits. When we are growing, we accept this world gradually and take everything around us for granted. Of course, our curiosity will die out. From this part, our curiosity about the world is not match to children. However, philosophers are different because they will never get used to the world. To them, there are still something unreasonable in the world, as well as something complex and something mysterious. They watch this world in childrens view. So they can come up with many deep questions. So they are called wise men. I always think about myself whether I have lost my curiosity and whether I have to苏菲的世界读后感watch this world in a new way. Maybe I can not think like children, but I can ask some more questions about the world.

There are many ideas in my mind, but I dont know how to express them clearly. After reading this book, I acquire much knowledge about

philosophy and gain some enlightenment from it. Maybe I should change my attitude towards life.

This book isnt too difficult to understand. Actually, its easy and

amusing. In each chapter, a fifteen-year-old girl asks questions to some famous philosophers that she doesnt know. In the beginning, it is not

necessary to have many dialogs. So the writer used the way of letter to tell the story. Since middle ages, it began talking face to face. These questions and answers are so natural that I always think it is true when I was reading. Sophie was truly hiding in an Eden filled with bush and experienced rainstorm and lightning on the square. The most important point is that these philosophers are wise but not sophisticated. Every word and every example of them are so realistic. Because of this, many abstract and dry theories are filled with the air of wisdom and beauty. However, the girls characters and qualities are not covered by these masters light. She is like a boat on the sea, tiny and tough. She has many her own ideas about these great theories, and its very special.

However, it is not enough to let this book be a guide of philosophy only by this. The author uses several clues in this book. In the beginning of this book, we read the story about Sophie, then philosophers. But, suddenly, there is an imaginary girl called Cid, as well as her father who is working Lebanon. Cids father is like a god that can be everywhere. He uses every way to show that he exists, but he never let anybody see him. Sophies world is very miraculous and fantastic. When she is studying philosophy, Sophie is thinking about her own world at the same time. Finally, they find the world which she has lived in for 15 years is only an imaginary world by a philosophy book of her

father. Her families, classmates, house, pets, garden, and all kinds of feelings and thoughts are created by her father. Her world is just somebodys illusion and shadow.

To many Chinese students, philosophy is hard to understand. But Sophie's World this book makes philosophy easy to understand. Its deep and amusing. After finishing the happy travel in this book about philosophy, readers can find the beacon in their lives. This is a world full of wisdom and dream. We can meet those famous philosophers, talk to them and understand them easily. Every time when we meet them, we will be shocked by their great thoughts.

This book also tells me that result is less important than the process we get the result. In our lives, we should always ask but not accept. We should find the beauty of thinking.
